Three Republicans Voted “no” on the Impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alexander Mayorkas

Three Republicans voted no on the impeachment articles — Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis.; Tom McClintock, R-Calif.; and Ken Buck, R-Colo.

They deserve our thanks.

Tom McClintock is a very, very conservative and highly principled Republican from Northern California. In a 10 page memo, he warns his fellow Republicans against the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas. https://mcclintock.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/mcclintock.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/the-case-against-the-impeachment-of-mayorkas.pdf He makes two salient points. First, the Founders and drafters of the US Constitution had a long debate about impeachment. They rejected maladministration as grounds for impeachment and limited it to treason, bribery and other high crimes and misdemeanors. Second, it will backfire against the GOP in the next general election, just as it did when they impeached Bill Clinton for lying about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Lastly, he warns that it will open the floodgates for Democrats to impeach very conservative Supreme Court Justices next time the shoe is on the other foot.

All are good points, but they did not convince most of his Trump-obsessed colleagues who are trying to downplay his two impeachments by their fact and rationale free impeachment efforts of Mayorkas and Biden.
